U.S. revokes UNRWA immunity, risking humanitarian disaster in Gaza

The U.S. decision to revoke UNRWA’s immunity aligns with Zionist objectives, risking humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Analyst Navid Kamali warns of regional instability and diminished global credibility for the U.S., as UNRWA remains vital for Palestinian refugees amid escalating crises.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A regional expert has warned that the United States’ decision to revoke the legal immunity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) will undermine the international system and embolden Tel Aviv to escalate human rights violations in Gaza.

Navid Kamali, an Iranian analyst, described this move as a troubling shift in Washington’s foreign policy, aligning with the Zionist regime’s war objectives. Kamali emphasized that this decision intensifies pressure on humanitarian institutions, particularly those operating in the Gaza Strip, and contrasts sharply with the policies of previous U.S. administrations.

Kamali highlighted the influence of pro-Israel lobbies and the strategic alignment between the Trump administration and Netanyahu’s government as key factors behind this decision. He noted that Israel has long sought to weaken UNRWA, viewing it as a symbol of the unresolved Palestinian refugee crisis.

The analyst warned that weakening UNRWA amid Gaza’s critical humanitarian crisis could lead to catastrophic consequences, threatening the lives of millions of vulnerable individuals. He argued that such actions jeopardize the future of the international order and human rights values, fostering regional instability and diminishing U.S. credibility globally.

Established in 1949, UNRWA plays a vital role in supporting Palestinian refugees, managing health centers and schools in Gaza and the West Bank. As the backbone of aid distribution in Gaza, its weakening amid ongoing Israeli aggression exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
